..were consolidated right now,Erik Bolling would be our center and we'd have a team that would be solid (not that we are bad now mind you,but he's a hoss). This talk doesn't make it depressing. What it does do is show that consolidation is not all doom and gloom athletic and academic wise

Future? As what? Ghost towns so visitors can come and see them like in the ole' west?
Just for "dream" sakes. Can you imagine what type of academic and athletic facilities there would be if Appy, Powell Valley, and maybe Norton combined. I would almost guarantee a D2 football state championship would be won a few times along with being very competitive in mens' and womens' basketball. As decent as the ladies softball programs are now, more success would come their way as well.
I believe, yes kinda believe that Wise can hold their own when it comes to baseball but kids coming from Pound would do nothing but add more talent.
I bet their would be a huge band along with scholastic bowl and drama success.
Me personally, I see nothing but a good future if Wise County consolidated but then again, who am I to mess with "heritage."
Give me a break!

I agree, How would "heritage" be changed or affected in a negative way. Would it mean that no one would be traveling through the illustrious towns of Appalachia or Pound or St. Paul. I mean come on, I think that it is selfish of the People in Appalachia or the other towns that speak against consolidation because all it brings is better education for their children or gran-children. A place to go to school in a nicer building that has access to newer technology and better facilities. Isn't that what parents are supposed to want for their kids? To have better than they had...Its depressing to drive by the schools and see the parking lots half empty and buildings half empty because enrolments are dropping.
The athletics could only get better if the schools consolidated. More athletes to field teams with means better competition in practices which would improve in games. It would also mean newer and state of the art facilities to play in lift weights in practice in.
But who would want that for the children there of today and the next 10 years from now. I guess its common across the country to want children to go to school in 55+ year old buildings with lack of technology and hazardous to be in. I hope it happens ASAP.
If this post makes some of you mad, then so be it..It needs to happen for the "Future" (children) of the county, not the ones affraid of change.
